Spay/Neuter Policy
It is the policy of Bliss Animal Haven that all animals be spayed/neutered prior to adoption, no exceptions.
We at Bliss Animal Haven, Inc, recognize the need to reduce and prevent animal cruelty and euthanasia. Bliss takes proactive measures to keep pets out of animal controls by collaborating with government and community agencies to:
- provide loving care, medical attention, housing and adoption for victims of animal cruelty cases: removing these animals from animal control centers will free up a run that would otherwise be occupied for weeks (or months) while the case is being processed, thus saving the lives of many more animals.
- provide temporary housing for the companion animals of victims of domestic violence: the connection between animal abuse and domestic violence is clear. Often times victims wanting to leave their abusers delay or decide against leaving over concern for a pet’s safety (shelters typically do not allow pets). Allowing a safe haven for these pets ensures that the victim reaches safety and that the pet does not come to harm.
- keep seniors and their pets together: it is proven that having a pet increases quality of life. Often times seniors who have pets may need some simple assistance in order to keep that pet, which is what our volunteer program will aim to do. This will allow seniors to maintain quality of life and will keep these precious pets out of animal control centers (many seniors have senior-aged pets, which are much more likely to be euthanized at animal control than younger pets).
Additionally, Bliss works to rescue, rehabilitate and re-home companion animals at risk of euthanasia at local animal control facilities.
